this blog is moving!
if you hadn’t noticed, i rarely post on this wordpress anymore. For my purposes, twitter and tumblr are a much more efficient way to post pictures, updates, and new work. While I won’t delete this blog right away, please visit the sites to see what’s new!!

I started an etsy shop full of prints! http://www.etsy.com/shop/kimsielbeck
in lieu of a more detailed update, here’s a helpful tip for surviving a summer in the city:
mugshots
A while ago I came across this flickr photostream full of really amazing mug shots. I started sketching a few, wondering why they’d been arrested in the first place. Some are incredibly emotional and others look like they could double for modeling shoots. Anyways, I took a few of these sketches and turned them into a print. 2 color, 10 x 16

new print! A companion to the Greenpoint one. More coming from more parts of Brooklyn.
Also, I’ll be selling this print and others at MoCCA this weekend in NYC, at booth m12. I’ll be there with Nick Sumida and some other awesome artists. come say hi!

oh hay 2011!
happy new year!
here are a bunch of random things i’ve been working on lately:
here’s the HAT PARTY zine, which is a prequel to the up and coming zine Tory Sica and I are still working on (see post on Super Cool):

It’s a tiny 8-page zine with a fold out poster (silkscreened!) inside. I handed them out at the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival, which was really fun and I got to meet so many great people and talk all about comics!
Next, here’s a fun print… for PUPPIES!
I worked on the header for a music blog called Tune the Proletariat. Their writing style works really well with the music they write about, be sure to check them out!
Also, I made this banner for the Showpaper booth at the Rock & Roll Circus in Lincoln Center today and tomorrow. Didn’t take too much time, but I liked how the lettering turned out! First piece of 2011.
I’m looking forward to making loads of new work in 2011. 2010 was such a great year, and things are only looking up ! thanks so much for everyone’s support, high fives, art trades, and enthusiasm!
some poets
the BCGF was so much fun! Tory and I debuted our mini-zine called Hat Party. They’re pretty cool, and if you missed em at the festial let me know and I will mail one to you!
I’ll get the scans of the zine in soon. For now, here are rough scketches of some notable beared poets I colored when I was up way too late one night.
Super Cool at Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Fest!
Tory Sica and I are working on “Super Cool,” based on studio survival without heat (they’re fixing it!). It’s a compilation of drawings, comics, and general icy cold things we’ve been working on to avoid frostbite, in a zine format. The full zine is coming soon, and will have fold-out posters, silkscreened cover, etc.
At the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival we will have a tiny mini-zine! it’s full of hats to keep you warm. It’s cute. I’ll also have plenty of stickers for the taking.

and uhh, this:
BACKPACKER january issue
here are some maps. You can find these along with many other maps by awesome illustrators in the latest edition of Backpacker Magazine.
this is Chequamegon forest in Wisconsin:
Trinity Alps in California:
Working on maps is really fun! Fitting everything on the map/in the right place/reducing info took some time, but I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.
I only wish the places looked like this in real life, so there could be giant butterflies and two-ton toddlers running around the mountains… or maybe not.
